The Records
Novak Djokovic holds the record with four Shanghai titles. Andy Murray is next with three, all of them between 2010 and 2016, and Roger Federer won two.
The 2012 final is the one that gets replayed. Djokovic saved five championship points against Murray before winning it, in what remains the closest anyone has come to taking a title off him here.
The 2025 Anomaly
Valentin Vacherot arrived ranked No. 204 and had to come through qualifying. He then beat five seeds, knocked out Djokovic in the semi-finals, and beat his own first cousin Arthur Rinderknech 4-6 6-3 6-3 in the final. He is the lowest-ranked Masters 1000 champion in the history of the series and the first player from Monaco to win a tour-level title.
The Missing Years
Shanghai was not played between 2020 and 2022. The event returned in 2023 with Hubert Hurkacz as champion, and Jannik Sinner won as world No. 1 in 2024.
