Laver Cup
Team Europe lead the Laver Cup 5-3, but Team World are the holders after winning 15-9 in San Francisco in 2025, and they have taken three of the last four editions. Eight events have been played since the competition launched in 2017.

There was no Laver Cup in 2020, when the edition scheduled for Boston was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was rescheduled to 2021 at the same venue.

The shape of the rivalry has changed sharply. Europe won the first four editions, three of them comfortably, and the competition drew criticism early on for being lopsided. Team World have since won three of the last four, starting with their breakthrough in London in 2022.
The biggest wins and the closest finishes
The most one-sided result remains Europe’s 14-1 in Boston in 2021, where Team World managed a single point across the three days. Team World’s 13-2 in Vancouver in 2023 was nearly as emphatic in the other direction.
Two editions have gone to 13-11, in Geneva in 2019 and Berlin in 2024, which under this scoring system means the outcome turned on the very last match. No Laver Cup has yet reached 12-12 and required the deciding doubles rubber.
Laver Cup prize money
The total purse for the 2026 Laver Cup is $1.5 million, and each player on the winning team receives $250,000. Since the 2023 edition there has been no prize-money payout at all for the losing side, which is unusual in tennis and is designed to sharpen the competitive edge.
Prize money is not the whole picture. Players also receive guaranteed appearance fees scaled to their ranking, set from the Monday after the French Open, so the higher-ranked players earn more simply for taking part. Laver Cup results carry no ATP ranking points.
Who is playing in 2026
Team Europe name Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Flavio Cobolli, Rafael Jódar, Jakub Menšík and Casper Ruud. Team World reply with Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Learner Tien, Alexander Bublik and Francisco Cerúndolo.
Cerúndolo was called up on 12 September after Tommy Paul withdrew with an elbow injury sustained at the US Open. It is Cerúndolo’s fourth Laver Cup in a row.
Several of the likely singles pairings already have history. Zverev and Shelton met in the 2026 US Open final (head-to-head), Alcaraz and Fritz have a long record across the majors (head-to-head), and Alcaraz has faced de Minaur repeatedly on hard courts (head-to-head). Why it is called the Laver Cup
The event is named after Rod Laver, the Australian who remains the only player to have won the calendar-year Grand Slam twice, in 1962 as an amateur and in 1969 in the open era. It was founded by Roger Federer’s management company and modelled loosely on golf’s Ryder Cup, with Europe against the rest of the world and captains picking the order of play.
Björn Borg captained Team Europe for the first seven editions and John McEnroe led Team World, before Yannick Noah and Andre Agassi took over.
