The PIF Race to the WTA Finals is the season-only points table that decides the eight singles players at the WTA Finals. It resets every January and counts points earned in the current year alone — and in 2026 the Finals move to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

How the Race to the WTA Finals Works
Every player starts the season on zero. Points come from the same events and in the same amounts as the world rankings — 2,000 for a Grand Slam title, 1,000 for a WTA 1000 — but only from tournaments played in the current calendar year.
The top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams in the Race qualify. Nothing carries over from last season, so a strong autumn can still overturn a slow start.
Race vs the WTA Rankings
The WTA rankings use a rolling 52-week window and measure form over the last year whenever the points were won. The Race counts 2026 only, so it is the better read on current-season form — and the only table that decides the Finals field.
The 2026 Season So Far
2026 has produced a different Grand Slam champion at every major so far, which is why the women’s Race is far more open than the men’s. Aryna Sabalenka completed the Sunshine Double at Indian Wells and Miami, Elina Svitolina took Rome, and three different players have lifted the three majors played.
