The Swiss Indoors Basel 2026 runs from 26 October to 1 November at St. Jakobshalle, and it will crown a new champion: João Fonseca, who won the title last year, has ended his season. It is also the last tournament of Stan Wawrinka’s career, and Novak Djokovic is back in Basel for the first time since 2011 on a wildcard.
Basel is played in the same week as the Vienna Open, so the two ATP 500s split the field, and both lead into the Paris Masters, the last Masters 1000 of the season. This preview was written on 19 October, before the draw.

The Field
Ben Shelton is the highest-ranked player on the entry list. He won the Canadian Open in August, beat Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set US Open quarter-final, and was the runner-up here in 2024.
Djokovic accepted a wildcard on 16 October. He won Basel in 2009, lost the 2010 final to Roger Federer, and arrives having won his seventh China Open title in Beijing this month. Arthur Fils, the Barcelona and Cincinnati champion this year, and Taylor Fritz are also entered, along with Holger Rune, Jiří Lehečka, Casper Ruud and Alexander Bublik.
The two Shanghai finalists both come to Basel. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won his first Masters 1000 title on 18 October, beating Rafael Jódar 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4, and he was the runner-up in Basel last year. Jódar’s entry was announced in August.
Wawrinka’s Farewell
Stan Wawrinka, the three-time Grand Slam champion, has a main-draw wildcard for his final tournament. The organisers have planned a tribute on the opening Monday evening, and his first match is set for Tuesday 27 October. Fellow Swiss Jérôme Kym and Dominic Stricker also have wildcards.
Who Is Missing
Fonseca, the defending champion, and Félix Auger-Aliassime, who won the title in 2022 and 2023, have both withdrawn: Auger-Aliassime with the knee injury that ended his Shanghai Masters. Jannik Sinner has ended his season. Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev are in Vienna instead.
The Race to Turin
Basel is one of the last chances to earn points for the ATP Finals in Turin, which start on 15 November. Djokovic is among the players chasing a place, which gives the week more edge than a normal ATP 500. The Race to Turin page has the table.
