The Vienna Open 2026 runs from 26 October to 1 November at the Wiener Stadthalle, and it will crown a new champion: Jannik Sinner, who won the title in 2023 and 2025, has ended his season with a knee injury. Carlos Alcaraz has taken a wildcard, and Alexander Zverev arrives with the world No. 1 ranking in reach.
Vienna, played as the Erste Bank Open, is held in the same week as the Swiss Indoors Basel, so the two ATP 500s split the field, and both lead into the Paris Masters. This preview was written on 19 October, before the draw.

Zverev and the No. 1 Ranking
Zverev won Roland-Garros and the US Open this year, and with Sinner out for the rest of the season the top of the rankings is opening up. The ATP says a semi-final in Vienna would make Zverev world No. 1 for the first time on 2 November. He won the title here in 2021 and lost last year’s final to Sinner. He comes in after losing to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Shanghai semi-finals.
Alcaraz on a Wildcard
Alcaraz accepted a wildcard on 15 October, his first Vienna since he reached the semi-finals in 2021. The Australian Open champion won the Japan Open again on 6 October, then lost in the third round of the Shanghai Masters to Zizou Bergs.
The Rest of the Field
Daniil Medvedev, the 2022 champion, won the Hangzhou title in September before he was disqualified from his China Open semi-final. Alex de Minaur reached the Beijing final and retired injured against Novak Djokovic, so his fitness is the question. Flavio Cobolli, the Roland-Garros runner-up, and Frances Tiafoe, the 2021 runner-up here and a US Open semi-finalist this year, are entered, along with Jakub Menšík, Learner Tien, Tommy Paul, Lorenzo Musetti and Andrey Rublev.
The British Interest
Cameron Norrie and Arthur Fery, who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals as a wildcard this year, are both on the entry list. Jack Draper, the 2024 champion, has ended his season.
