Czechia then won both reverse singles: Menšík beat Ben Shelton 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, and Jiří Lehečka closed it out against Tien 6-3, 7-5.
Lehečka was the weekend’s outstanding player, winning both his rubbers after also beating Shelton 6-4, 6-4 on the opening day. In Quebec City, Félix Auger-Aliassime took his second singles win of the weekend, beating Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 as Canada saw off France. Austria went through at the expense of Zizou Bergs, who lost to Jurij Rodionov 7-6(6), 6-3.
Sunday’s three ties
Halle was the only tie still level going into the final day, and Alexander Zverev settled it in 77 minutes. In his first outing since winning the US Open he beat Dino Prižmić 6-2, 6-4 without facing a break point, having already seen off Matej Dodig 6-4, 7-6(3) on the opening day. Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz had put Germany back in front by beating Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić 7-5, 6-2 in the doubles.
Great Britain went through 4-0 and reach the Final 8 for the first time since 2023. Toby Samuel marked his Davis Cup debut by beating Andrés Andrade 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and Arthur Fery beat Álvaro Guillén Meza 7-5, 6-0, before Henry Patten and Neal Skupski took the doubles 6-3, 6-4 against Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo. Pedro Martínez and Jaume Munar then took the doubles 6-0, 6-3 over Tomás Barrios Vera and Tabilo, and Martín Landaluce closed it out 6-2, 6-3 against Matías Soto.
