The 2026 Miami Open has served up one of the most dramatic opening weeks in recent memory, with a succession of high-profile casualties leaving the men’s draw wide open heading into the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

The Miami Open is one of two ATP Masters 1000 events held in the United States, alongside Indian Wells. Played on hard courts at the former home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, the tournament regularly attracts the strongest fields outside of the Grand Slams.

The Story So Far: Seed Carnage in Miami

The 2026 edition will be remembered for its brutal early rounds. The top half of the draw has been decimated, with just Taylor Fritz (6) surviving from the top 20 seeds. The headline upset came on Sunday when Sebastian Korda, seeded 32nd, defeated world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three sets to send shockwaves through the tournament.

In the bottom half, Sinner (2) and Zverev (3) remain, joined by Fran Cerúndolo (18) and Frances Tiafoe (20). Several lower seeds and qualifiers have seized their opportunities, with NextGen star Martin Landaluce, who came through qualifying, upsetting 14th seed Karen Khachanov along the way.

Perhaps the most striking statistic is the American presence in the last 16: five home players remain in Fritz, Tiafoe, Michelsen, Korda, and Tommy Paul. That is the highest number of Americans in the Miami Open fourth round since 1996.

Sebastian Korda vs Martin Landaluce

The man of the moment against the breakout story of the tournament. Korda comes in riding the momentum of his stunning win over Alcaraz and will fancy his chances of reaching the quarter-finals. The 25-year-old American has long been tipped for big things and appears to be peaking at the right time on home soil. Landaluce, just 19, came through qualifying and upset Khachanov in the third round. The Spaniard is the only player from his country still standing after Alcaraz’s exit, and his aggressive baseline game has impressed all week.

Taylor Fritz vs Jiří Lehečka

Fritz is the highest remaining seed in the top half of the draw. The American has previous Miami Open pedigree and carries the weight of American expectation. The world No 6 has been solid if unspectacular in his opening rounds, but now faces a stern test in Lehečka, who has been in impressive form in 2026. The Czech’s powerful groundstrokes and improving serve make him a dangerous opponent on hard courts, and this could be the match of the round.

Alexander Zverev vs Quentin Halys

Zverev arrives in the second week after reaching the semi-finals at Indian Wells earlier this month. The world No 3 should be the clear favourite against Halys, who has exceeded expectations to reach the last 16. Zverev’s path to the semi-finals looks relatively clear on paper, though his six-match losing streak against Sinner will be a concern if both reach the last four.

Jannik Sinner vs Alex Michelsen

The Italian’s hard-court pedigree is well established, and Michelsen will need the performance of his career to cause an upset. Jannik Sinner to win the tournament @ 4/6

The Italian is the standout favourite for good reason. He arrives in Miami having won the Indian Wells title without dropping a set, and with Alcaraz already eliminated, his biggest rival is gone. Sinner faces Michelsen in the R16 and would likely meet Tiafoe or Zverev later in the draw. His hard-court record is formidable, and with the draw opening up, it is difficult to see who stops him. Sebastian Korda to reach the semi-finals @ 5/1
