Cincinnati Open 2026 Quarter-Finals: Świątek v Rybakina Headlines as Americans Fill Half the Last Eight

Eight of the sixteen Cincinnati Open quarter-finalists are American, and the tournament’s two biggest names are not in the draw at all. With Alexander Zverev, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Aryna Sabalenka all beaten in the last 16, the headline tie is the one the bracket promised from the start: defending champion Iga Świątek against Elena Rybakina, a rivalry standing at 7-6 after thirteen meetings. Thiago Agustín Tirante, who knocked out Novak Djokovic in the first round, is one win from a Masters 1000 semi-final.

Earlier rounds are covered in our round of 16 report, round of 32 report and round of 64 report. Outright angles are on the betting tips page, broadcast details in the how to watch guide.

Świątek Against Rybakina Is the Match of the Tournament

The seedings put Iga Świątek at seven and Elena Rybakina at two in the same quarter, and both have arrived without alarm. Świątek has not dropped a set, beating Emiliana Arango, Maria Sakkari and Diane Parry for the loss of thirteen games across three matches. Rybakina came through the rain-suspended Magdalena Fręch match and then Diana Shnaider 6-4, 6-4.

Their head-to-head reads 7-6 to Świątek across thirteen meetings, which is as close as any rivalry at the top of the women’s game. The pattern is surface-dependent: Rybakina’s serve is the single most valuable shot in the draw on a quick hard court, while Świątek’s return depth is what has decided most of their meetings on slower ones. Cincinnati’s courts sit closer to Rybakina’s end of that range than Roland-Garros ever will.

The winner has the clearer path of the two halves. With Sabalenka gone, no player ranked inside the world’s top three remains on the other side of the draw.

Half the Last Eight Is American

Four American men and four American women are in the quarter-finals. On the men’s side Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul and Brandon Nakashima have all come through, and two of them meet each other. In the women’s draw Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys are through, the most American women in the Cincinnati last eight since 2004, and Pegula plays Anisimova.

That guarantees at least one American in each semi-final, and it is the strongest collective showing by the host nation at this event in two decades — a fortnight before the US Open.

Men’s Quarter-Finals

Quarter-final The case
Tommy Paul (18) v Flavio Cobolli (7) Paul beat the top seed from match point down; Cobolli is the highest seed left and has won two three-setters
Thiago Agustín Tirante v Arthur Fils (21) A clay specialist who has beaten Djokovic and Menšík, against the man who put out de Minaur
Frances Tiafoe (17) v Lorenzo Musetti (10) Tiafoe has beaten Tien and Auger-Aliassime back to back; Musetti has spent the least time on court of anyone left
Taylor Fritz (6) v Brandon Nakashima (27) All-American. Nakashima saved three match points to beat Medvedev; Fritz has dropped one set all week

Women’s Quarter-Finals

Quarter-final The case
Iga Świątek (7) v Elena Rybakina (2) 7-6 to Świątek in thirteen meetings; the defending champion has not dropped a set
Marta Kostyuk (10) v Coco Gauff (4) Kostyuk’s first Cincinnati quarter-final, after beating fifth seed Andreeva from a set down
Jessica Pegula (3) v Amanda Anisimova (9) All-American; Anisimova has beaten Eala and sixth seed Nosková
Madison Keys (20) v Sara Bejlek Bejlek has taken out Krejčíková and the world No. 1; Keys has lost seven games in two matches

Tirante Is One Win From a Masters Semi-Final

Thiago Agustín Tirante came to Ohio as a clay-court player ranked outside the top 40 and has beaten Novak Djokovic, fellow qualifier Martín Landaluce and 14th seed Jakub Menšík. His section lost Djokovic, Casper Ruud and then Zverev, so the route has been genuinely open — but three wins at this level is three wins, and the Menšík match was settled 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Arthur Fils is the harder test he has faced. The Frenchman recovered from losing a second-set lead against Jiří Lehečka and then handled Alex de Minaur in straight sets, which is the best win of anyone left in the bottom half.

Best Bets

Rybakina to beat Świątek

The head-to-head is 7-6 and the surface leans her way. Świątek is the defending champion and has been the cleaner player this week, but she is priced as the favourite in a match-up that history says is a coin toss on a fast court. Take the underdog in a 50-50.

Tirante to cover the handicap against Fils

Fils should win it. Tirante has been competitive in every match he has played here and has already taken out a top-15 seed, so the game handicap is the safer expression than the outright — the same shape of bet that worked on Arthur Fery against de Minaur earlier in the week.

An American in both finals

With four American men and four American women in the last eight, and Fritz–Nakashima and Pegula–Anisimova both guaranteeing home progress, the “American to win the title” markets in either draw are shorter than they look on individual form.

Where the Value Sits Now

Every men’s pre-tournament outright angle is dead — Zverev, Auger-Aliassime and Ben Shelton are all out — so Flavio Cobolli inherits favouritism on seeding rather than form. In a draw this broken that is a thin basis for a price, and the each-way case remains Tirante in the emptiest quarter. In the women’s draw Rybakina is still the pick and the reasoning has strengthened: with Sabalenka out, winning the Świątek quarter-final would leave her the highest-ranked player in the tournament.
