French Open 2026 Women’s Final: Andreeva v Chwalinska Preview & Best Bets

Roland-Garros 2026 will crown a first-time women’s Grand Slam champion on Saturday — and the final could hardly be more contrasting. Mirra Andreeva, the 19-year-old eighth seed, reached her first major final having dropped just one set all fortnight, ending Marta Kostyuk‘s 17-match clay streak 6-1, 6-3 in the semis.

Her opponent is the story of the tournament: world No.114 Maja Chwalinska, who came through qualifying and beat Zheng Qinwen, Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari, Anna Kalinskaya and Diana Shnaider to become the first qualifier ever to reach a Roland-Garros final — and only the second to reach any Grand Slam final, after Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open. They have never met.

Road to the Final

Mirra Andreeva

The 19-year-old eighth seed has been the most dominant player of the fortnight, conceding fewer than six games a match across six rounds. Her only dropped set came in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 second-round win over qualifier Marina Bassols Ribera; she then crushed Sorana Cîrstea 6-0, 6-3 in the quarter-finals and produced a near-flawless 6-1, 6-3 semi-final over Marta Kostyuk, snapping the Ukrainian’s 17-match clay-court winning streak and reversing an 0-2 head-to-head from earlier in 2026. Andreeva is the first teenager to reach the Roland-Garros final since Coco Gauff, and one of the youngest first-time Grand Slam finalists of the century.

Maja Chwalinska

The run of the tournament. World No.114 Chwalinska won three qualifying matches just to reach the main draw — only her third at a major — and has not stopped since, toppling a string of established names on her way to a first tour-level final of any kind.

Round Opponent Score
R1 Zheng Qinwen 6-4, 6-0
R2 Elise Mertens 6-4, 6-0
R3 Maria Sakkari 1-6, 6-3, 6-2
R4 Diane Parry 6-3, 6-2
QF Anna Kalinskaya (22) 7-6(3), 6-3
SF Diana Shnaider 7-6(4), 6-4

Chwalinska is the first qualifier to reach the Roland-Garros final in the Open Era, and only the second qualifier to reach any Grand Slam final — after Emma Raducanu, who went on to win the 2021 US Open.

Women’s Final Prediction & Best Bets

Andreeva to win the title

Mirra Andreeva is the clear favourite and rightly so: she is the more accomplished player, in the best form of anyone left, and has shown a temperament well beyond her years. Six rounds, one set dropped, and a ruthless semi-final dismissal of the form player in Kostyuk — she should have too much all-court quality. Tip: Andreeva to win the title (around 1/5).

The fairytale angle — and the value

Maja Chwalinska is no fluke finalist: beating Zheng, Mertens, Sakkari and Shnaider takes serious tennis, and the Raducanu precedent proves a qualifier can go all the way. The occasion and the gulf in ranking make Andreeva a heavy favourite, but a first major final can unsettle anyone. Value: Chwalinska to win a set (around evens) is the smarter play than backing the upright outright.
