US Open 2026 Day 4 Predictions, Order of Play & Best Bets

Rain hit the US Open for a third straight day on Tuesday, with no play on the outer courts before 6pm and only 26 of the 40 scheduled matches decided. Fourteen first-round ties were pushed into Wednesday. On the covered Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the schedule held, top seed Alexander Zverev came within touching distance of the exit: he trailed Lorenzo Sonego by two sets to one before winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-4 in four hours and 53 minutes.

Britain’s run of good days ended. Wild card Arthur Fery, a Wimbledon semi-finalist two months ago, lost 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 to 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti. Flavio Cobolli matched Zverev for drama, coming from two sets down against Francisco Comesaña, and Yulia Putintseva produced the only seeded casualty by beating 12th seed Belinda Bencic. Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva, Madison Keys and Alex Eala all came through in straight sets.

Day 4 is the biggest of the tournament so far: the first round finally finishes and the second round begins, 46 matches in all. Five Britons play. Jan Choinski and Francesca Jones complete their first-round ties, while Jacob Fearnley, Toby Samuel and Katie Boulter are all in round-two action.

How Day 3’s bets landed

The rain did us a favour. Both named best bets came in: Alexander Zverev to win, the hard way, and Lorenzo Musetti to beat Fery. The third, Daria Kasatkina against Paula Badosa, never got on court and plays today instead.

That leaves all three accas alive rather than settled. The Seeds Slip has Zverev, Gauff and Rybakina in the book with only Alex de Minaur outstanding, and he plays today. The Straight Sets Sweep has Rybakina and Gauff home, again waiting on de Minaur. The Long-Shot has Madison Keys banked and is waiting on both Kasatkina and Jan Choinski. Three live slips carried into Day 4 is a better position than most Tuesdays end in.

Matteo Berrettini v Mariano Navone

The tie of the round. Mariano Navone beat Novak Djokovic in five sets on the opening day and has barely been mentioned since; Matteo Berrettini came through Stan Wawrinka in straight sets and is playing with a freedom his body has rarely allowed him. Navone is a clay-court grinder who won by absorbing pace for four and a half hours, and Berrettini will not give him that: the Italian’s serve and forehand are built to end points early on a quick court. If Navone drags it past three hours he has a real chance. If Berrettini serves at his best it will not last that long.

Best bet: Matteo Berrettini to win — around 4/6 with Bet365 (approx odds).

Katie Boulter v Karolína Muchová

Katie Boulter has already matched her best US Open result and now gets the hardest draw available: Karolína Muchová, the seventh seed and a former semi-finalist here, who needed 58 minutes to win her opener. Boulter’s serve gives her a route, and Muchová’s fitness has been the question of her career rather than her level. But the Czech’s variety is exactly the problem Boulter has historically struggled to solve, and over three sets on a medium-paced court the seed should have too much.

Best bet: Karolína Muchová to win — around 1/3 with Sky Bet (approx odds).

Ben Shelton v Hubert Hurkacz

Two of the biggest serves in the draw, under the lights on Ashe in the day session. Ben Shelton dropped the opening set to Tallon Griekspoor and then took over, and Hubert Hurkacz needed four against Damir Džumhur. Expect very few break points and at least one tie-break. Shelton has the better return of the two and the crowd, which in New York is worth a service game on its own.

Best bet: Ben Shelton to win — around 4/9 with Paddy Power (approx odds).

Combined: approximately 1/2. Back this acca with Paddy Power.
